An analysis by Amnesty International of the government’s budget between 2017 and 2021, showed that the average budget allocated for health projects was only 2%. During the same period, the average budget allocated to the security sector, including the ministries of defense and internal security, was 31% of the total government budget.
Amnesty International has called on the Federal Government of Somalia to increase its health budget by 2% to 15% of its annual budget in accordance with the Abuja Declaration.
